Game 12 - 31st District Championship - Owen County vs. Carroll County
When you look at both of these teams this year, I don't think you can find a more evenly matched up couple of teams. Their stats are almost identical. Carroll County has taken a few more wins this year, but you can throw all of that out when it's Tournament time. In one of the lowest scoring games I have ever seen, this one went to double overtime. With the score at 9-9 after one and 13-12 at the half, you would think the scoring would pick up in the second half. Not the case here. 18-17 after three quarters and tied at 21 after regulation. Here's where it got interesting. Down 3 points in the final seconds of the first overtime period, The Panthers Lindsey Wallace drains a three pointer at the buzzer to send it to a second overtime period. TheRebels took it from there, outscoring the Panthers 10-2 in the second overtime to take the 38-30 win and their second 31st district championship in a row. Both teams will advance to the 8th Region Tournament next week at South Oldham High School. The Panthers were led by Lindsey Wallace who had 12 points while Owen County was paced by Rianna Gayheart with a game leading 16 points. We wish both teams the best in the 8th Region!!!

St. Henry entered the 34th District this year when the new Cooper High School opened up. The Ludlow Panthers have never won a District Championship. It was going to be a first time for one team. Ashley Daugherty came out firing as she dropped 11 points in the first frame. The Panthers extended a 15-11 first quarter lead to 11 going into halftime. St. Henry came out smoking in the third quarter outscoring the Lady Paqnthers by a 18-4 margin taking a 35-32 lead going into the final quarter. Julie Hardin went down with an ankle injury in the quarter, but returned after walking it off. The final quartlady Panthers were paced by Ashley Daugherty and her 25 game leading points. St. Henry was led by Abby Janszen who had 16 points. Both teams will advance to the 9th Region Tournament at the Bank of Kentucky Center next week.

Game 10 - 34th District - Dixie Heights vs. Ludlow
The last time that these two teams met, Ashley Daugherty was out with a knee injury. This time, the Lady Colonels would face a fully charged Ludlow offense. Dixie took an 11-9 lead after the first quarter and held on to a 1 point lead at 21-20 going into the locker room at halftime. Dixie pushed their lead to 4 points going into the final 8 minutes of play, leading 32-28. The 4th quarter saw Dixie go 7-12 from the free throw line with a couple of key misses from Kayla Bowman late in the quarter. That accompanied by two three pointers made by Courtney Turner turned a 4 point deficit into the eventual 44-43 win for the Lady Panthers who advance to the 34th District final against the winner of St. Henry/Villa on Thursday Night. Kayla Bowman led all scorers from Dixie with 18 points. Turner topped the scoring for Ludlow with 17. Ludlow goes to 22-7 with the win and Dixie Heights ends their season with a 6-17 record.

Game 9 - 36th District - Dayton vs. Newport
Both the Newport Lady Wildcats and the Dayton Greendevils have new Head Coaches this year. The Greendevils came into the game with a 15-10 record while the Newport Wildcats came in with a record on the flipside, 10-15. Dayton is coming off of a huge win against the Ludlow Panthers and hopes to add to the momentum by winning in the districts. Newport looks to add to it's win total as well, capitalizing on some season ending momentum as well. Newport took a 7-5 lead into the second quarter, but then the real scoring got underway. Dayton took the lead and would not give it up taking a 22-18 lead into the locker room at the half. The third quarter started the end for Newport as Dayton could not miss a bucket. The Greendevils outshot the Wildcats by a 30-8 margin in the 3rd quarter and sealed a 65-42 victory and improving to 16-10 on the season. Dayton will take on Highlands in the second 36th District semi-final game. Newport finishes their year with a 10-16 record. Jennifer Bivens added to her 1,000 point total by leading the Wildcats in scoring with 16. Brittany Hall led all scorers for Dayton with 22 points.

Game 8 - Carroll County vs. Gallatin County - 8th Region All "A" Classic Championship
The last time that the Gallatin County Wildcats went to the State All "A" Classic Tournament was 1997, 12 years ago. Carroll County had gone as recent as 2 years ago and both teams were looking to get back to Richmond as this game is for the Sweet 16 of the "A" schools. Carroll County started out fast just like last night. Gallatin County foundthemselves down 10 points in the first few minutes, but a time out and the Wildcats regained a bit of composure and had cut the lead to 8, 15-7 after the first quarter. The second quarter saw Gallatin County come alive. 4 three pointers in the period and outscoring the Panthers 20-11 gave the Wildcats a 27-26 lead going into the locker room at the half. A low scoring third quarter saw Carroll County take a 3 point lead into the final eight minutes, but 5 three throws by Alyson Davis with the final two coming with .3 seconds left on the clock sealed a 42-40 win for the Wildcats and their trip to Richmond in two weeks. Ashley Jones was named tournament MVP and she led all scorers with 14 points (unofficially) while Marissa Brindley led the Panthers with 8 points (unofficially).

The second semi-final game of the night put two 31st district opponents together for the 4th time this year as the Carroll County Panthers took on the host Owen County Rebels. Both teams had won against each other on their home floors this year, and Owen County was looking to even the record at two games each. Carroll County game out firing with 5 different players getting in the scorebook in the first quarter, while Owen County struggled for field goals. Owen County could not capitalize from the foulline either in the first 8 minutes going 2-8 from the stripe. Carroll took a 12-6 lead into the second quarter, a lead they would never give up. Rianna Gayheart, the leading scorer for Owen County added 9 points in the second quarter, just not enough to overcome the Panther lead that pushed to 28-20 at the end of the half. Carroll County came out of the locker room and hit a couple of three pointers to put the game out of reach and in the end, a 54-36 win for Carroll County who will advance to take on Gallatin County on Saturday for the 8th Region crown at Owen County. Game 6 - Walton-Verona vs. Gallatin County - 8th Region All "A" Classic semifinal game #1
A second meeting of the year for the Gallatin County Wildcats and the Walton-Verona Bearcats, this time in the first semi-final game of the 8th Region All "A" Classic Tornament at Owen County. For Bearcat Head Coach Cory Miller, his first year in the 8th Region. It was this game that both teams got to last year. Gallatin County after having the bye fell on a last second shot from Williamstown and Walton-Verona fell to eventual champion, Trimble County in the semi's. Gallatin County started out with a very uptempo game, pressing Walton into a few turnovers in the first quarter. The Wildcats would open a 17-10 lead going into the second quarter. Game 5 - Newport Central Catholic @ Simon Kenton
For the second game in a row, a pre-game scoring recognition ceremony was held as Chelsea Tolliver was recognized for breaking the Pioneers Girls Basketball Scoring Record in the Lexington Catholic Tournament over the Christmas break. Chelsea would add 18 more points to that record, however the Pioneers needed a bit more and didn't get it as they fell to the visiting Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds by a 52-44 final score. The Pioneers were shutout for the first half of the quarter and found themselves down 10-0 early. They had committed 15 turnovers by the end of the first half also. Game 4 - Ludlow @ Lloyd Memorial
Our first broadcast under the Tri State Internet Sports moniker was on tap for Saturday afternoon as Coach Stamm brought the 8-2 Ludlow Lady Panthers to Lloyd Memorial to take on the winless Lady Juggernauts. In talking to Coach Bill Tharp before the game, he indicated that the Lady Juggernuats were a young team and lacked the varsity experience that Ludlow has. Unfortunately, that is true as the more experienced Lady Panthers took a 74-30 victory in Erlanger. Julie Hardin paced all scorers with 18 points. Catlain Ottaway added 8 for the Lady Panthers in the win. Carly Ward led Lloyd Memorial with 9 points with Brittanie Sharboro and Tawni Lockard both adding 8 points each for the Lady Juggernauts. This gave is a preview of the first round of the All "A" Classic in a week or so as both teams will face each other on 1/12/09. With the win, Ludlow goes to 9-2 on the year and Lloyd Memorial is still looking for their first win against 8 losses.

We had a problem with the video at halftime, so unfortunately, we only have the first half. We know what the problem was and will correct for future video projects. Sorry for the inconvenience.
